Design Team March Assignment

Another tough month, but I loved every minute of it!!!! This month our products were Fancy Pants Ghost shapes (we each got one sheet), Fancy Pants 12 x 12 transparency and a doodling template. Here are the specific items that I received in my kit:

(I got the top right sheet with the 4 large mini album pages)

transparency Diamonds doodling template. Here is what I came up with for my layout...............

When I saw the large "pages" that were the majority of my ghost shapes, I had no idea what I was going to do with them. I mean, they are pages meant to be used in a mini book, what I am going to do with them on a layout??? I don't even know how this idea came to me, but I thought, well, I have to make something out of them so I punched them out and started playing and came up with the butterfly. I had to cut them down a bit since they were too large, so I cut the center parts down. I also used the "leaves" to make the smaller butterfly in the right, near the picture. The heart and arrow are also the ghost shapes that I actually painted since they weren't showing up as well as I wanted them too. To give both butterflies some depth, I used pop dots to get them up off the pages. For the 12 x 12 transparency, I cut the two "frames" out and actually used those as photo corners underneath my photo. I used chalk and paint with the doodling template to add diamonds hap hazardly around my layout. The challenges that I completed this month were:

1. Use 1 picture (used 8 x 12 picture)
2. Hand Stitch (stitched "trail" of the butterfly)
3. Use Paint or chalk (used paint and chalk in various places on the layout

Here are a couple of close-ups.

The cake.............

Ok, I had so many comments about the cake on the Slumber Party layout in my previous post. I bought the cake at Walmart for $4 and it is the cutest thing ever. There were several different ones. They had a bear, ladybug, frog and a puppy. I think I have also seen a dinosaur. This was just a little something extra since it is so small, like a single serving. You can't really tell from the picture, it looks a lot bigger in the picture than it really is. Here is a picture of McKenzie with the cake, she loved it!!!!!!

Next time you are at Walmart check out the bakery department and see if there are any there, the kids loves them. Oh, I can tell you this, it looks much better than it tastes, lol.

Slumber Party

For Taylor's birthday last year, she decided to have a slumber party, which scared me a little, but I allowed it. At this age, the drama is there with the girls over EVERYTHING. I was actually surprised that all of the girls got along really well, there was no bickering and no drama whatsoever, just a good time had by all!

Hannah Montana wig

If you have been following my blog, you realize that I have a HUGE Hannah Montana fan in my house. She saw this wig and fell in love with it and had to have it. She actually saw it in a little book from Limited Too and I had to call all over the state to find one and have them ship it to me. The things we do for our little girls. Anyway, she wore this thing all the time until it eventually got so tangled up, the only thing we could do is throw it away.

2nd Grade Parent Day

We got a new principal this year at school and he started a new thing called Parent Day, where every Friday, he chooses one grade and invites all of the parents of those children to come have lunch with the kids and stay for a little activity afterwards. I think it is a success since everyone seems to enjoy it and the kids love having their parents come for lunch.

For the 2nd grade, they were studying Indians, so they decided to dress up like Indians and teach the parents how to do a rain dance. The kids loved seeing the parents dancing in circles trying to get it to rain.

(For the sunflowers, I painted the "petals" with paint and the coated the middle with Mono glue and poured the brown beads on it. After the glue dried and I shook off the excess beads, I put another coat of glue on top of the beads just to seal them a little better. Add ribbons for the stems and viola! you have sunflowers.

Review of Heidi Swapp's JUST FOR LOOKS idea book

Saw on Treasured Memories website last week that they received the new Heidi Swapp "Just for Looks" idea book, so I stopped in to pick it up, because you know, I have to have every idea book that comes out. It is a cute small-ish square book PACKED with scrapping goodness. I have become more of a Heidi Swapp fan as of lately and I love everything in this book. It is exactly what it says, just for looking. There is one layout on every page with a listing of the products she used and that is it. The majority of the layouts are one page with one picture, but the whole thing is nothing but EYE CANDY!!!! It amazes me that all of the layouts seem to be somewhat simple, but with the right amount of small touches to make it perfect. Just goes to show that you don't need to have tons of supplies to come up with beautiful layouts. There is lots of variety of layouts in this book such as boy, girl, family, beach and even Halloween!!! The book has a soft cover and is 96 pages. Definately worth getting to look through and get inspired.
My favorites layouts are: page 8, 19, 31, 34, 41, 47, 51, 55, 61, 71, 74, 75, and 87

So Girly

Yep, you guessed it, another layout of McKenzie. I have a ton of single 5x7 photos of her that I needed to get scrapped. It's those kinds of pictures that you catch of everyday moments. I really like those, I just wish I had more of Taylor. She would rather me NOT take pictures of her right now. I will have to keep trying to get some of her. Hopefully she will get out of that stage soon.

Cosmo Cricket mini book

So, a couple of months ago, I ordered the QVC Today's Special Value Cosmo Cricket collection that came with 125486456245861153 pieces and I figured, I need to use up some of those pieces so I feel I got my money's worth out of it. I am actually going to use most of it to make a little gift album for one of my sisters-in-law. Everything I used came from the kit except for the Prima flowers and pearl centers. Oh, and I also used a Tim Holtz ink pad to distress the edges a little more. I don't really know what I plan to do with the book, I am sure that I can find something to use it for.

Another McKenzie layout

Ok, so I have been working on this one for a couple of days now. I have so busy with everyday life, that I haven't had much time to scrap and from the looks of the calendars for April and May, it is just going to get worse!!!! And that isn't even taking the dance recital in June into consideration. Ok, so here is what I worked on this week. A little simple one, but still fun to do
